Keith Kjelstrom is the former director of the California Main Street Program. Keith's work with boards, committees, staff and city officials has provided him with extensive experience in teaching economic development tools and techniques, and facilitating strategic planning, goal setting and workplan development. His 18 years of experience also include work as the downtown project manager in Morgan Hill, CA and positions with a planning firm in San Francisco and an economic development agency in Boston.
Darlene Rios-Drapkin's background includes more than 15 years in international sales and marketing with Compaq Computers, British Airways and Marriott Hotels, as well as commercial revitalization work across the U.S. Darlene is currently a Program Associate for Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), providing community and economic development services in urban areas. She previously served as staff to Oakland's Fruitvale Main Street Program. She is a native Spanish speaker whose cross-cultural experience helps her meet the unique needs of multi-cultural communities.
Initiatives is a graphic design and public relations firm that specializes in small business, government agency and land-use development projects throughout California. With over 18 years of experience, Dave Davis, principal, provides start-to-finish document production -- an integrated approach to writing, editing, design, production and direct mail for all types of print and Web-based materials. Since 1993, Dave has also provided editing and design services for the Local Government Commission (LGC). With the LGC and other clients, he has worked with numerous local agencies and elected officials throughout the state. A respected editor and graphic designer, Dave is the author of numerous books and articles on strategies for creating more livable and economically vibrant communities, including the LGC's Participation Tools for Better Land-Use Planning and some two dozen profiles of California model projects. He has edited and designed countless books and brochures on development, economic revitalization and street design for healthy neighborhoods, including the LGC's Policymaker's Guides on infill and transit-oriented development, the Citizen's Guide to Traffic Calming, Street Design Guidelines for Healthy Neighborhoods, and The Ahwahnee Principles for Smart Economic Development.
